This course involves sharpening student's academic and organizational skills paired with extra academic help with core classes
Instruction Goals
1. To achieve success in general education classes.
2. To develop and reinforce study and organization skills 3. To promote student responsibility and advocacy skills. |
Organization of instruction
The first 20 to 30 minutes of each class will be a teacher-directed lesson addressing study skills, organization and self-advocacy skills. Students will keep an online blog.
The rest of the period will be an independent study of general education classes in which students can receive assistance from the teacher. Each student's progress in his/her general education classes will be monitored routinely. The individual needs and goals of each student will be addressed and considered in all aspects of the course. Academy Reading-- This is an online program designed to help students with de-coding skills and comprehension techniques in reading.
Read to Achieve: This program is to teach comprehension strategies that high school students can successfully apply to content-area classes. It is specifically tailored to meet the more complex literacy requirements of high school. This program will help students read informational passages more effectively, take notes from textbooks and classroom lectures, study from notes, and comprehend content-area text. |
